Friday Fun

Fondu-A-licious

I finally threw in the towel. I reached to the top of our tallest cabinet in our kitchen, pulled out a box that has been sitting untouched for about two years. That would be our fondue pot. With this amazing new little grocery store down the street from me now, I decided it's time to make some fondue! It was easier to make than I thought it would be. I did have four hands in the kitchen though. Most of the time, William gets in the way, but when it comes to new recipes there's never too many chefs in the kitchen. Oh, it helps he has great knowledge on all things cooking, because he actually pays attention to the shows we watch on the Food Network. Not me though, nope, I am like a little mouse scavenging through the kitchen during those shows, because they make me so hungry. Anyways, below is the recipe for the amazing fondue William and I conquered on Friday:

Best Formula Three-Cheese Fondue

1 cup white wine (we used Sauvignon Blanc)
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
7 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
7 ounces sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
7 ounces Emmentaler cheese, shredded
We added a clove of garlic (minced)

1.Bring the wine to a boil in a small saucepan.

2.Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium low heat. Whisk in the flour, and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid sticking and burning.

3.Once the flour is cooked, stir the wine into the flour mixture slowly. Use a whisk to smooth the mixture. Slowly add cubes (we shredded our cheese) of Gruyere, Cheddar, and Emmentaler cheese; stir until cheese is melted. Transfer cheese mixture to fondue pot. Keep warm over low flame.

I toasted some bread, chopped some granny smith apples, and we grilled up some left over steak. It was all very delcious yet calorie consuming.  Like my mom always says "eat it in good health".

I didn't get a picture of my fondue creation, but the next best thing is to show you a picture of the array of cheeses available at this place
